Loaded
I worked closely with the editor and art team of legendary men’s magazine Loaded for a four month period of reinvention and relaunch, before moving on to design the brand offshoot Loaded Summer Special. Here is a very small selection of the work that I designed during that period, including some unpublished dummy layout and cover idea mock-ups.
Chat
During my spell working for TV Times at Time Inc. UK, I was occasionally drafted to help out with redesign or launch design work on other titles for a few weeks at a time, one instance being for infamous real life weekly Chat. The work shown here includes live and dummy designs produced by myself alongside page layouts created by the Chat art team working to my redesign templates and direction.
Nuts
I was the launch Art Director on IPC’s market-leading men’s weekly Nuts, working on the project from the very first brainstorming sessions all the way through an intense period of development, extremely competitive launch period and two years of rapid and regular reinvention – a very challenging but valuable experience.
When we originally started work on the magazine the intentions were very different (far less reliant on barely clothed pin-ups and aimed at men of a much wider age range) to the form that it was eventually driven to take by the demands of the market and the intensive battle for supremacy on the newsstand. Here is a small selection of the work that I designed for Nuts…
Time Inc. UK redesign work
I carried out redesign and launch design work for a number of different titles while working at Time Inc. UK / IPC Media. Here is a small sample of that work, from TV & Satellite Week, Uncut, TV Easy, and Pick Me Up. I designed these covers – which include two early unpublished test designs for TV & Satellite Week – and either designed myself or directed the people who produced the page layouts shown here.
EMAP redesign work
While creating dummy ideas for new launches with editorial director Mark Ellen in the special projects department of publisher EMAP Metro, we also worked closely with a number of different brand editors and art teams to help develop new editorial strategies and reinvent the look & feel for Empire, Mixmag, Smash Hits & Kerrang magazines.
